Tiger Sushi 2 in Uptown will once again be home to Sushi with your Poochie. Huge thanks to Sidewalk Dog for putting it all together, and working so hard to make it better than ever! This time around, it’s two nights with less people, and will most definitely be super fun! I’ll be there photographing the fabulous event, and we’re very excited for a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program (MNSNAP). Here’s some fun images from last year, and all the info you’ll need is at the bottom.

Last year’s event was a great success considering it was the first doggie/sushi party the Twin Cities has ever seen! This year, we’ve worked out the kinks to make sure everything runs like a well-oiled fun machine. Here are some highlights to look forward to:

The sushi artists at Tiger Sushi 2 have offered to hand roll special dog-friendly maki sushi for our four-legged friends!
A very insightful “paw reader” will be on hand to inform you what lies ahead in your pet’s future.
You’ve got two chances to attend—the event will be held on both Tuesday, July 20th and Wednesday, July 21st. So if one night conflicts with your golf game, don’t sweat it. Plus, each night will be less crowded and more fully staffed than last year.
In addition to being able to order off Tiger Sushi’s amazing happy hour menu, which the restaurant is offering for the entire event, you can purchase ready-to-eat boxed sushi from a table on TS2′s beautiful patio.
A small portion of ticket proceeds, paw readings and martini sales will go to our fabulous beneficiary, Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program (MNSNAP), which provides low-cost spay and neuter services in a mobile surgical unit. MNSNAP will also receive part of the proceeds from all paw readings and $1 from each of Tiger Sushi’s fabulous martinis (Ninja Jinga or or Pomegranate Empress, anyone?) sold that night. On-site donations are also encouraged.

Time: 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Location: Tiger Sushi 2′s gorgeous patio at 2841 Lyndale Ave. in Uptown Minneapolis. (Free parking is available after 4 p.m. in the Egg & I parking lot across the street.)
Cost: $15/person

homeward bound rescue :: giving back in july

I’m very excited to announce that Homeward Bound Rescue is the Rescue of the Month for July! I’ve been a vendor or photographer at many of their fundraising events, including Wine and Wag, Beer with your Buddy and most recently, Tails by the Lake, and have happily given away sessions, prints and discounts for their silent auctions or door prizes. They’re a wonderful organization that’s very active in the fundraising world. They continually have a huge variety of dogs available for adoption, and I love just looking at their site and daydreaming about what my next dog might be!

Not only do they take in a ton of animals, they also post listings for families or strays that need homes as well. Homeward Bound was started in 1991, is all foster-based, and is proud to be a no-kill organization. They are more than happy to take in senior and special-needs dogs, whom other organizations may have deemed “unadoptable.” Their fosters take great care to learn about each animal and give an accurate description of their personalities and needs for potential adopters. There’s great information on their site about dog care, cat care, and how to be a responsible owner.

Here’s just a couple sweet Homeward Bound faces that I had the pleasure to meet at my Style Hounds opening last weekend!

It’s a pretty low-key 4th of July for me this year….. Dustin’s at work all day, I’ve been cleaning, organizing, and de-cluttering the house (Goodwill, here I come) and enjoying our rad ceiling fans in this heat. (we only put in the window air conditioner if absolutely necessary) The cats are lounging and Gracie is holding her post at the squirrel-watching station. I realized I never posted about my nephew’s first birthday party a few weeks ago. I headed to South Dakota for the festivities and took some summery fun photos of the kids. This first one is Marco, he’s three, and running next to the slip-n-slide and stopping to check out the water. (notice his hair isn’t even wet) I don’t think he ever got brave enough to actually slip and/or slide.

And here’s the birthday boy, Tyson. He’s pretty much the cutest nephew ever (if I may say so) and has this amazing hair that grows in every direction, which actually looks pretty tame in these photos. Happy Birthday buddy!

henry :: almost famous

Our friends at Sidewalk Dog (THE place to go for all things dog-related!) do this fun piece on “Almost Famous Dogs.” They get the dish on local celeb’s furry friends, and lately, I’ve had a chance to photograph them! I got to meet the lovely Twin Cities Live host, Elizabeth Ries and her fab little Westie, Henry, at Cupcake in St. Paul. (which is delicious and awesome) Elizabeth is so personable and sweet, and Henry is just the same. You can read the Sidewalk Dog blog post here, and check out a couple fun images from our shoot:

gertie + dixie = besties

Gertie’s mom got a pet photography session for her birthday, and they were both super excited! She’s a yellow lab (mix?) and LOVES tennis balls. Her BFF Dixie dropped by toward the end to get some photos of her own, and some together. These girls are two peas in a pod, and it’s amazing how similar they look. She’s lighter than Gertie, and has something in her heritage that gives her a fluffy, upturned tail, but other than that, they may as well be sisters. It was fabulous meeting these lovely ladies, and we got some awesome images….. please enjoy:

leo in the studio

Leo’s dad won a session through a Can Do Canines silent auction. (formerly Hearing and Service Dogs of MN) Leo is big, lovey English Lab, and he did great in the studio! They wanted some of the more non-traditional colors, so we busted out the orange, and the always-fabulous “standing on the surface of the sun” yellow. Isn’t he handsome?

LOVE this one…… Me? Oh, I’m just chillin.

gryphon :: joy session

I had another beautiful Golden Retriever for a Joy Session last week. Gryphon is 12 years old and just got diagnosed with Lymphoma. His little brother, Hobbes, is 10 and still doing well. I was surprised at their coats, they’re both much lighter-colored than any Golden I’ve come across, and their fur gets really curly on the ends. Their mom said they’re from Canada and some breeders up there breed for this specific light coat. It’s really pretty.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…. the love that people have for their pets runs so deep it can be overwhelming. I often get asked if my Joy Sessions are hard to do, and while they can be emotional, I really, really love to do them. It brings purpose to what I do, and healing to the families who are losing one of their own.

So here’s my favorites from Gryphon’s session. He wasn’t getting around too well, he either stood in his pool (he loves to dig in his pool!) or laid on the grass, but he definitely made for some beautiful images. Thank you Gryphon.

Call for Models Winners Announced!

Holy cow. That’s all I have to say….. Holy cow. When I put out the call for models, I was expecting maybe 20 to 25 people would respond, I’d pick my 12 or so, and it would be easy peasy. You guys really stepped up for this, and I got over 140 submissions!! Whoa! There were SOO many great dogs to choose from, I had to bring in help to cull it down. I limited it to 12, simply for time and cost involved on my part, but I seriously would love to photograph each and every one. A ginormous thanks to everyone who submitted!

It was so great reading all of your funny stories, your pet’s quirks, activities, likes and dislikes. Some photos made me laugh out loud, some made me go “awwwww,” but they were all fantastic! It’s overwhelming sometimes how much we love our pets, so thank you for sharing little pieces of that love with me.

Keep in mind that my choices were made purely by my personal aesthetic and what I’m envisioning for this project. It took a LONG time to pick just these few, but I’m really excited about them! It’s such an eclectic mix, which is exactly what I was hoping for, so thank you for that. Without further adieu, I present the winners!
