Annie is a 10 year old rescue, and while no one is sure exactly what she is, she’s lovingly referred to as a “White Footed Razorback Terrier.” She’s inherently shy when she’s the center of attention, but absolutely loves people. We got some pretty funny expressions (and looks of sheer terror) while she was alone on the background paper, as well as some really sweet ones that her dad is going to love!

I highly recommend looking into getting dental care for your dogs (and cats!) Dr. Kate is super passionate about oral health and gave an eye-opening talk at one of my networking meetings. Regular dental care improves quality of life as well as increasing length of life. Pet Crossing is one of the most experienced and technically advanced hospitals for dental services in the Midwest, and unlike most veterinary hospitals, they encourage you to observe, in the room, while your pet undergoes cleanings, extractions, surgeries and more. It’s a pretty cool place!

Wheatens are famously cute and soft and bouncy and Hailey was no exception. She was a great model, and we got some gorgeous images!

Ali was a great model, and such a super happy girl!

At the shoot, I talked about how I like to have people with their dogs in location sessions, showing the relationship, and J.J. suggested I get some “mother-daughter” shots with just Maggie and Ali. When Maggie got up to give J.J. a turn with their pooch, she found him down on one knee, holding out a gorgeous ring. It was seriously awesome… she never saw it coming!

She said “yes!!”

The session changed from Pet Photos to some quick Engagement Photos, and then I was out of there. The plan had worked, and it was SO fun to be a part of it! Thank you J.J. for your awesome idea, and congratulations to both of you  :)

Last year’s event was a great success considering it was the first doggie/sushi party the Twin Cities has ever seen! This year, we’ve worked out the kinks to make sure everything runs like a well-oiled fun machine. Here are some highlights to look forward to:

• The sushi artists at Tiger Sushi 2 have offered to hand roll special dog-friendly maki sushi for our four-legged friends!
• A very insightful “paw reader” will be on hand to inform you what lies ahead in your pet’s future.
• You’ve got two chances to attend—the event will be held on both Tuesday, July 20th and Wednesday, July 21st. So if one night conflicts with your golf game, don’t sweat it. Plus, each night will be less crowded and more fully staffed than last year.
• In addition to being able to order off Tiger Sushi’s amazing happy hour menu, which the restaurant is offering for the entire event, you can purchase ready-to-eat boxed sushi from a table on TS2′s beautiful patio.
• A small portion of ticket proceeds, paw readings and martini sales will go to our fabulous beneficiary, Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program (MNSNAP), which provides low-cost spay and neuter services in a mobile surgical unit. MNSNAP will also receive part of the proceeds from all paw readings and $1 from each of Tiger Sushi’s fabulous martinis (Ninja Jinga or or Pomegranate Empress, anyone?) sold that night. On-site donations are also encouraged.

We tried getting Helix to play with a few of his toys, but his absolute favorite was a good ol’ stick.

Not only do they take in a ton of animals, they also post listings for families or strays that need homes as well. Homeward Bound was started in 1991, is all foster-based, and is proud to be a no-kill organization. They are more than happy to take in senior and special-needs dogs, whom other organizations may have deemed “unadoptable.” Their fosters take great care to learn about each animal and give an accurate description of their personalities and needs for potential adopters. There’s great information on their site about dog care, cat care, and how to be a responsible owner.
