Gold Paw Models Have Been Chosen!

A huge thank you to our 131 amazingly cute entrants! We only needed 5 models for this project, so the decision did not come lightly. Gold Paw and I are both very excited about the variety of dogs we’ll be photographing next week. Congratulations to Maya, Frankie, Colby Jack, Eloise and Mattie!

pet project rescue :: may rescue of the month

Our Rescue of the Month for the merry month of May is the always-fabulous Pet Project Rescue. PPR was started in response to the needs of street dogs on Isla Mujeres, Mexico. After visiting Mexico on several occasions, PPR founder, Maia, knew she had to do something to help. She’s partnered with Isla Animals Rescue, and works to bring adoptable dogs here to Minnesota, where people have the means and desire to give them loving homes. Pet Project also does incredible work locally, funding spay/neuter clinics, trap and release programs for feral cats, and they are an approved rescue to pull “bully breeds” from Minneapolis Animal Care and Control. PPR is a 501(c)(3) foster-based rescue, striving to match the right animal with your needs and family situations. They’ve built a strong reputation, and are proud to be able to fund as many programs as they do, including something that I particularly love, the “Lukas Project.” Named for an amazing boy who led a tragically short life, the Lukas Project provides for terminal animals to live out their days in loving, permanent foster homes. This compassionate program allows for otherwise un-adoptable companion animals to receive veterinary care, to know love and warmth (sometime for the first time) before they pass. I recently photographed two Lukas Project participants, and it fills my heart to know these people who give their all to provide a comfortable life for these loving, grateful creatures.

I work with a lot of different rescues, and there’s just something about Pet Project Rescue that speaks to me, that calls me to action and sparks me to do something. They’re still quite active in the Mexican street dog scene, and help out with spay/neuter clinics when they can. Maia asked me to accompany them this past November, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. You can read about my experiences here, but know that it was an intense, eye-opening experience that I hope to do again soon. Our favorite images from that clinic will be on display and available for purchase at PPR’s 4th Annual Fundraiser this coming Saturday, May 4th. Along with drinks, appetizers and live music, you can bid on amazing silent auction items, like a full studio session + print credit from yours truly! (these don’t come along often, people!) :)

I’m so excited to be a part of this group, and I hope to see many of you at the event on Saturday!

Our foster features this month are Meg and Lea. Meg is a cute little blue “pocket pit” who’s super pretty and loves people. She’s local, from Minneapolis Animal Control. Seriously, she’s adorable.
Lea is straight off the streets of Mexico! She’s energetic and has the most amazing underbite. Her freckles are wonderful, and she LOVES tennis balls! Crazyballface, anyone?

Pet Project Rescue :: Fundraiser and Art Show

You’re in luck! There’s still some tickets available for the 4th Annual Pet Project Rescue Fundraiser this coming Saturday, May 5th! It’s going to be super fun — live music by The Dirty Road Ramblers and Heartbeats, a silent auction (where, amongst other amazing items, you can get a full studio session and $150 print credit from yours truly!) appetizers and drinks, and the best photos from the Cancun Spay/Neuter Clinic will be on display and available for purchase. We thought Cinco de Mayo would be the perfect day to hold this event, and we hope to see you there from 7pm – 11pm! It’s at Cedars Hall, 602 NE University Ave in Minneapolis. Proceeds from this event help fund local spay/neuter clinics, which are vital to our community and solving problems here at home. Previous years have sold out, so don’t miss your chance to attend! If you’d like to support PPR but aren’t able to make it on Saturday, there’s opportunities to sponsor the event. It’s geared toward businesses, but individuals and families can sponsor as well!

bailey :: minneapolis joy session

Sweet, old Bailey was originally going to come in for a regular session, but it turned into a Joy Session after they found out she had cancer. We had a beautiful fall day, and she got to run and play and get snuggles from her girls. And she has an extremely long tongue.

call for models :: minnesota commercial dog photography

We’re super excited to be teaming up with Gold Paw to shoot some new doggie models for their fabulous line of products! We’re looking for a variety of shapes and sizes, big personalities and expressive faces. If you live in the Twin Cities area, have a dog with short- to medium-length hair that enjoys wearing dog coats/jackets and knows basic commands like sit and stay, we’d love to consider you for this project. You must be available for a photo shoot on Saturday, May 12th.

You’ll need to measure your dog’s length and girth (see the poster below, and instructions in the submission form) and upload a photo for consideration. Entries will be accepted through Monday, April 30th, and selections will be announced on Friday, May 4th. Selected dogs will be photographed wearing Gold Paw products, featured on promotional materials, and receive a free Gold Paw fleece and a free 5×7 print from the shoot. I was excited to receive a tear sheet from a recent AAA Magazine piece about traveling with your dog! That’s my image, and they gave shout outs to our good friends at Sidewalk Dog and Pampered Pooch as well as local boutique Lulu and Luigi. I might be biased, but I think it looks pretty great :)

Red and Rusty are two rambunctious Golden Retrievers! Red is older (and more red) at 10 years old, and Rusty is the more golden “youngster” at 7 years…. although you’d think he’s 7 months by his energy :) Red loves socks!Rusty loves ball!My favorite part of old Red? His titanium tooth! His lower canine broke a long time ago, and they had it replaced with this Terminator-esque one. Pardon my french, but it’s pretty bad-ass.
