christmas 2010 :: nitro goes home

The whirlwind of the holidays is winding down, and I’d like to wish each and every one of you a (belated) Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year! All us kids made it to my mom’s place for the weekend to eat delicious food, open gifts and just be together. My nephews got tons of toys, Gracie had a blast running around the farm, and I took some fun snowy photos.

We had a bit of an adventure on Christmas night….. my mom spotted a lost dog heading down the road, so she and I went out to find him. We weren’t able to catch him but he eventually made his way down our driveway. We left the barn open, put out some food and hoped for the best. The next morning, my brother, who lives just up the road, was in his basement and saw the dog laying underneath his back deck. They lured him out with food and he jumped right into the truck. He’s a gorgeous Australian Shepherd, loves people and didn’t have a collar. He must not have been lost for long, because he was really clean and not matted or anything. So he spent the day in the house, but unfortunately tried to eat Oliver and has been banished to the barn. My mom called all the vets and shelters in town, and this morning his owner came to get him! He’s such a cool dog, we wanted to make sure it was the real owner who claimed him, and this guy had a photo and “Nitro” went nuts when he saw him, so it was definitely him. I’m so glad we saved this dog and were able to reunite him with his family…. it was our own little Christmas miracle!  :)

(p.s. this is exactly why dogs need to wear collars with tags!)
