The Northwoods Humane Society is an independent animal humane society serving Chisago County and the surrounding communities. They have a building in Forest Lake where their adoptable animals are housed, and where they take in owner-surrenders. Appointments and fees are required to surrender an animal. Northwoods does not pick up stray animals, but will take them in if space allows.
Mr. Snuggles is one of their adoptable kitties – an owner surrender – and is quite handsome. I love his pink little nose :)
Tootsie is a sweet old gal who loves her walks! She was taken into Northwoods from Animal Control.
Joel is the Northwoods Humane Society “Office Cat,” and has a special story: He arrived at the shelter in 2005 when he was about 7 years old, weighing only 5 ½ pounds. He was quite literally a wreck: the tip of his right ear was missing, his left elbow had an old injury which x-rays showed was a fracture that healed incorrectly, he had a head tilt from a large mass behind his ear drum, and he had a severe upper respiratory infection. Despite Joel’s challenges (he doesn’t walk in a straight line, doesn’t have good jumping skills, and he doesn’t climb) he is a great cat! He loves kids, men, women, other cats, and being vacuumed. He will also bathe orphaned kittens and snuggle with them to provide a warm feline body. Joel will be 15 this year and we’ve loved every minute of his life with us! He truly represents Northwoods’ mission to care for animals in need: the homeless, strays, abused, neglected and lost. Heal them, love them, and help them find a forever home.
