{Ok, she’s not actually *in* the studio, I brought the studio to her}
A couple weeks ago, I had the chance to do something I’ve wanted to do for a long time…. photograph a horse in my studio style. Horses are a lot like cats, in that they don’t do what you want, and they don’t stay in one place. Take those attributes, add about a thousand pounds and you’ve got a good challenge on your hands! I didn’t want her halter on, and you can only really control horses by their heads. They do like treats, though. {I’m a big Tim Flach fan, I don’t know how he does it}
Emma is a purebred Arabian, and completely gorgeous. There’s a breeder by my mom’s place up north, and I headed up there to give it a try. I actually took riding lessons there when I was a kid, so it was cool to see the stables again. Emma was very patient with the whole idea, but not totally thrilled.
If I do it again, I would need a much bigger background, and probably a much bigger light source. So one day, when I have my big, beautiful studio with a giant door, I’ll invite some horses over to give it another try :)
Stunning! Seriously!
Haha- that is awesome Sarah! Such a beautifully artistic shot too.
this is. gorgeous! studio size, be damned – you still made it look amazing.
This is amazing!! Just perfection!
Just ONE?? Thats torture… I think we need to see more!! This is stunning.
That’s a beautiful shot! What a great experiment. Thanks for sharing it.
haha, thanks guys! the others weren’t nearly as interesting as this one and I didn’t want to sully the impact :)
They are so hard to shoot well. Thanks for not taking the generic eye photo. Nice shot.
You make me feel proud! It’s a lovely photo of my Emma. Let’s do it again, only with a bit more prep time & other options.
Oh my goodness, this is GORGEOUS!!! Horses were my first love, and it would be so much fun to photograph one “in” the studio. I get to photograph (and ride!) some on location this weekend, and I am ecstatic! :D
Sarah – WOW! Such a stunning shot you have there! One of my favorite poises for a horse portrait! Great job – can’t wait to see how they look when youactually get them in the studio! COngrats!
STUNNING.
Nice job, Sarah! Having grown up with horses – and snapping innumerable shots of them throughout the years – I know how hard it is to get “The Shot” with these beautiful animals.
absolutely beautiful! maybe start with miniature horses in your current studio! :)
So gorgeous! I just recommended you to a horse friend. :)!
Awesome, Sarah! Would love to have you do a session with my Jameson someday!
